hitting gold in las vegas

Congrats to those who took home the gold last night. Against all odds: Grand Prize was for Pharma. In spite of this (or maybe inspired by it) CLIO announced it will be launching a new award for Healthcare. In recognition of the difficulty of competing in a category which requires half an ad to be written by lawyers. Submission process opens in July and winners to be honored at a ceremony in New York in October. (Sort of like an industry Special Olympics?)

Hi AB -- fantastic to meet you @CLIO, and thanks for the plug for the Clio Healthcare Awards, which will be judged by healthcare-specialist agency creative directors (and me, a lapsed one). Had to laugh at the 'special Olympics' comment -- in healthcare's case, the handicap is the FDA!

Anonymous: there's a fair turnout here in spite of the economy, with people coming from the UK, France, South America, and other parts as well as all over the USA. Still, many of the Communications awards last night went to people who didn't show up to accept them.

@Anonymous Spoke with CLIO events director Karl Vontz about this. He admitted that yes, attendance is down some, but said attendees are higher level execs than usual.

@Rob Buccino Great to meet you IRL. Thanks for clarification on healthcare awards--they're designed for Rx, not just OTC pharma. (Which won Grand last nite.)
